The week will consist of a series of centrally organised actions and events, but we are also actively encouraging groups and individuals to host their own events and undertake their own actions at various locations throughout the course of the week. The organising collective for the week will be happy to assist in the promotion and organising of decentralised actions if desired.
An itinerary of the main convergence events is below, with a list of ways that you can participate and contribute:
Monday, September 22nd
Building A Movement for the Climate Emergency
Public Meeting 6:30pm, Rm B121, Gardens Point, QUT
This will be a public meeting of activists, campaigners and concerned individuals who are interested in participating in the week’s events to share ideas and inspiration, plan decentralised actions, and to build and promote the week across the city. This meeting will serve as the launch for the week of actions, and provide an opportunity for us to get to know one another and to identify opportunities for collective activities during the week. The meeting will include speakers, planning workshops and breakout groups.
What you can do:
- Encourage as many members of your organisation to come along as possible – the success of the week depends on the committed individuals and groups undertaking their own actions and events to provide a diversity of ways for people to participate.
- Promote the meeting – distribute flyers, emails and include it in events-lists and newsletters to let people know that it is happening.
- Facilitate a workshop – if you’d like to facilitate a workshop or present a talk at the meeting, let us know.
- Contact Dom on 0431 638 772 or Lauren on 0413 534 125

Friday September 26th
Critical Mass
5:15pm, Queens Park
Join us on Friday for the biggest Critical Mass Brisbane has ever seen. With the theme “Don’t dig coal”, this Critical Mass will be a mass convergence of bicyclists, skateboarders, roller bladers to promote alternative non-motorised modes of transport, be part of the movement to end our oil addiction, and celebrate the reclaimation of our streets. Each Critical Mass is different and follows no set route, with the direction being spontaneously chosen as people cycle along. Anyone is free to join or leave the ride as it pedals along.
What you can do:
- Join in – meet us at 5.15pm at Queens Park in the Brisbane CBD, on the corner of George and Elizabeth Streets, Brisbane.
Sunday September 28th
Climate rally then Festival under the stars
The week will culminate in a collective gathering and walk through the city on Sunday leading to an ‘under the stars’ Climate Festival.
Meet at 2pm at Parliament House to hear from Wanita Limpus (Kiribati community, facing annihilation of her country); Steve Posselt (Save the Mary River campaigner who kayaked across Australia) + more, then take a "climate criminals" tour/march, to highlight some of the worst climate vandals in Qld - including Xtrata, Waratah Coal and more - before arriving at Centenary Place for the Climate Festival.
Climate Festival from 4pm at Centenary Place
Music, food, films, open space workshops and stalls are planned as we gather to build towards ongoing action to prevent climate change. Please note that this will be a family friendly and alcohol-free event.
What you can do?
Be a part of the organising crew for this event – we have a number of roles to fill for the day, including marshalls, legal observers, media spokes, police liaison and first aid. If you can help out on the day, please contact (Rally) Paul 0410 629 088; (Festival) John on 0405 433 550.
For the Festival:
- Host a stall – we’ll have a number of opportunities for groups and businesses to set up stalls & activities at the Climate Festival. We are particularly keen to talk to anyone who would like to host stalls, organise a workshop or to provide children’s entertainment activities.
- Bands – we are still looking for bands and performers to breathe life into the Festival. If you know any musicians or performers who would be interested in participating, please contact John on 0405 433 550.
